A project I am currently working on for an upcoming event is a Candy Buffet. You know...something like this:
or this...
or even this...
There is something so inviting about a bunch of candy at your fingertips...bliss.
I started and ended my project this weekend. It only took 2 days of shopping, painting, and gluing.
I made my rounds yesterday and today to our local thrift shops looking for candlesticks and glass bowls/jars (that are wide enough to put your hand in.) I was able to find what I needed without a problem and spent about $15.00
Here are the different candlesticks I picked up, ready to be spray painted. I first applied a primer (Rustoleum's 2X brand) and topped them with a white glossy spray paint, also Rustoleum brand.
Here are the glass containers.
...after a couple of coats of spray paint.
...and the two put together.
The glass jars are just placed on the candlesticks for now. I will eventually use some E6000 glue to adhere them together. The final touch will be the candy.
The total cost for this project was about $25.00, which includes the candlesticks, the glass jars, and the 2 cans of spray paint.
So awesome! I've been wanting to create a candy buffet! Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot to add that I am a new follower!! :)
DeleteMe too...been looking for an excuse!
DeleteJust started a candy buffet business what a great addition! Love it!
DeleteWhat a bargain! I love that you painted the candlesticks white. Looks great :)
ReplyDeleteThe party is going to be a White Party, hence the white bases. I think they'll look nice filled with colorful candy.
DeleteGreat way to combine two of my favorite things! Looking forward to painting some candlesticks and enjoying some yummy candies! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to filling the dishes will all kinds of candy, too. I will have to post a true "after" picture (of that.)

Have a happy, creative day!
This looks like a great I idea and I hope to hit some yard sales and thrift stores with a list for these. I do have one question- when you used them did you have any issues with them being easily knocked over? thank you, Patty
ReplyDeleteHi Patty. I have only used the candy buffet once and it was for an adult party. No containers were tilted over and I felt pretty comfortable about it. The candy does add weight, so that's good. I do have a few shorter candlesticks that are very stable, so if tipping is something you are concerned about, stay on the shorter side.
DeleteThank you so much-- I was thinking about using them for a friend's bridal shower...well and maybe my youngest son's graduation party. So many ideas.....thanks for sharing!
DeleteHey Mrs.Emily, I LOVE your CANDY JARS, and your PROFILE" WHO I AM" short & to the point..
ReplyDeleteJust a suggestion for easy cleaning and storage. I was also using E600 glue but then tried a new idea. Glue Dots Glue Dots 1/2-Inch Removable Dots, 200-Clear Dots/Roll. They come in all sizes. They are the kind I use on gift baskets. Place a few around the candle stick and then ad your glass container. Everything stays put and then when your ready to wash and store it's much easier. Also sometime you might want just the glass bowl. I did this because I had some very large pieces that were hard to store.
ReplyDeleteLove this suggestion!
DeleteThese candy containers are beautiful and at such a minimal cost. Lovely idea!
ReplyDeleteOh how fabulous, thanks for sharing. In February my husband and I plan on having a renewal of our wedding vows for our 30th anniversary. I think this will be simple but wonderful. And with plenty of time to get it done DEB~
ReplyDeletevery cute ideas
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute idea! I made them in red. Christmas can't come fast enough! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteRed?! I love that idea, how fun!!
DeleteBeautiful, now I need to find some candlesticks and jars :)
ReplyDeleteI am planning my daughter's wedding reception for December. We decided to do just desserts. I want to use this idea for a candy bar as well as for a hot cocoa bar. I am so excited it is going to look so great. I am going to paint some bases white and some silver. Love the glue dots idea. I am definitely going to do that. These would be great for bridal and baby showers too.
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel: A hot cocoa bar? I love that idea. So glad I could provide some inspiration for you. Good luck with your project.
ReplyDeleteVery original and beautiful look!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!! I could also see them with white candles, water & floating candles, or flowers!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!! Where did you get your candlesticks? I'm your newest follower, by the way, and a fellow teacher, too! :)

Hi Kelly! All of the candlesticks came from thrift stores.
Deletehow did you glue the two together and what kind of paint did u use, thanks
ReplyDeleteHi There. I used E-6000 glue. The paint was the 2x (coverage) Rustoleum brand.
DeleteI will definitely use this project for my wedding candy buffet, I love it thank you so much!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, the buffet will be perfect for your wedding. Good luck with the project, I'm sure it will turn out wonderful!

ReplyDeleteAre the candlesticks glass as well?
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm...if I remember correctly, most of the are actually glass. I think some may have been a bronz-y color, but most were glass or ceramic.
DeleteWe are having a Renaissance Faire wedding and I think these would be wonderful wedding favors to use as drinking goblets. Do you think they would be sturdy enough and the glue would hold?
ReplyDeleteRenaissance Faire wedding? How creative! I think they would be sturdy enough if the weight was distributed just right. Just be careful they aren't too top heavy. As long as you use E6000 glue you will be just fine. That stuff it amazing!
ReplyDeleteI would have painted the candlesticks different colors. Like pastels (if it's for a girls party). Love the idea though!!
ReplyDeleteDifferent colored candlesticks would be super cute. I used these for my 40th birthday bash, in which was a "White Party."

If you want to create a display on a wire display rack and situate it somewhere else in your store, make sure that location doesn’t experience a high number of customers at any given point during the day before you stack glass candy jars on the shelves; otherwise, you might want to go with plastic containers instead.
